Health Initiative Receives Breast Health Service Funding

The Health Initiative was awarded a grant in the amount of $9,250 by It’s The Journey, Inc., producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The grant will fund 50 mammograms and clinical breast exams in the LGBT community.  This grant is one of 22 grants awarded by It’s The Journey this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia.  Individuals interested in accessing these services should contact The Health Initiative directly.

“We work all year for this one night – to present grants to the most deserving breast health and breast cancer programs in the state.” said Kimberly Goff, Executive Director of It’s The Journey, Inc.  “We want to ensure that these organizations can continue to provide services from basic clinical breast exams to hereditary screening and wellness programs. We are proud that our funds remain focused on local needs that make a difference in Georgia communities.”

It’s The Journey, Inc. produces the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, an annual walk that raises funds for breast health and breast cancer programs in Georgia.  Twenty-two deserving organizations across the state were awarded grants.  The recipients included those who provide screening and diagnostic mammograms to underserved communities, educate patients on early detection practices, offer multi-language treatment options, and provide wellness, counseling, and rehabilitations services.  For a complete listing of grant recipients and descriptions of their programs, visit

The 2014 Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer takes place October 11 – 12.  All of the money raised here, stays here in Georgia. To register for the 2-Day Walk, visit
