New Website/Event Dates Announced

ATLANTA – Today, in tandem with National LGBT Health Awareness Week, The Health Initiative unveiled a new, streamlined website and released information on two signature events.

Linda Ellis, Health Initiative executive director, explained the importance of the website redesign, “With our expansion to provide services to the statewide LGBTQ community, it was imperative that The Health Initiative experience be as user friendly as possible. We know that any type of obstacle discourages people from accessing health care, including general health and wellness information. The new website creates easier access to Health Initiative services for community members and for health service providers.”

Besides the completely overhauled look of the site, changes include the addition of simple online forms for accessing the Health Fund, signing up for the newsletter, becoming a volunteer, and requesting a support group. Health service professionals can navigate training information, as well as apply to be added to the LGBTQ Friendly Provider Directory. The search function for the directory is now a built in function of every page on the site. Currently being populated, the event calendar provides individuals the ability to have event information, including support group schedules, sent directly to their personal calendars.  The new site is also specifically designed to be friendly for mobile devices, including tablets and iPads.

With the unveiling of the website, The Health Initiative released the dates for the Spring Health Fair and the Annual Fall Garden Party. “While we are still in the process of scheduling events for the entire year, we are very excited to announce these two signature events that bring the community together under the umbrella of health and wellness,” Ellis said.

In addition to weekly programming and support group schedules, The Health Initiative hosts multiple community events throughout the year, including wellness activities and social gatherings.
